What this game does
Medium
-
Expiring battle pass
You buy a pass and have weeks to use it. Play too little and you lose what you paid for.
Evidence: Wikipedia (en): «==== Booster Course Pass ==== During a February 2022 Nintendo Direct, it was announced that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe would get a paid downloadable content season pass called the "Booster Course Pass".»

Sold in parts
The full game costs more than the price on the box: there is separate paid content. Not a dirty trick, but worth knowing before buying.
Evidence: Wikipedia (en): «Both paid and free downloadable content (DLC) was released after its launch, including additional tracks and a new difficulty setting.»
